Queso Blanco owners, Terrell and Yolanda Gray
My wife, Yolanda, and I opened Queso Blanco Mexican Restaurant in Westfield, Indiana, in October of 2007. While there were several Mexican restaurants in Westfield, we saw a need for Mexican food with an authentic homemade flavor, as if you were dining with friends in Mexico.
Our recipes are family secrets from Oaxaca, Mexico (pronounced Wah-Ha-Ka). This city in Southern Mexico has a rich history for cheeses only found in this area. This is where we got our name Queso Blanco – or White Cheese. We import spices from Mexico and mix them to achieve a flavor different than any other restaurant.
Yolanda taught me something interesting about cooking. A plate can be made with your knowledge, or it can be made with your heart. When we come in and say, “this will be the best plate I have ever served,” we get compliments from our customers. We believe when we treat employees like family, our customers feel like family. It is our goal for our customers to feel like they’re having a meal in the home with family.
Yolanda is from Oaxaca, Mexico. I am from LaFayette, Georgia. So when someone has a birthday we sing in English, Spanish or Hillbilly Spanish and bring out a Banana Chimichanga which is our best ice cream dessert. Our customers bring friends with birthdays often to hear the song. May we say thanks to our customers and all who will become customers at Queso Blanco Mexican Restaurant.
